Surface Pattern Design
My name is Marieanne Griffiths and I create surface pattern designs under that name.
I live and work in the beautiful countryside of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales.
I have always been artistic and the need to be creative drives me, along with the continual inspiration of the amazing nature that surrounds me.
This is a new branch of my artists creative tree. For many years I have created original paintings, prints, designs for greetings cards and tee-shirts, along with tea-towels and cushions.
But now I am venturing into using my hand-drawn and painted designs formed into repeating patterns. These patterns are then used on fabrics, wallpaper, stationery, home-wares and many more everyday items.
My artistic style in pattern design is eclectic, quirky yet homely, heritage, nature and florals.
I use detailed pen and ink drawings with added watercolour in bright, bold, and earthy tones. My patterns generally would suit home decor, fabrics, gift wrap and stationery, and are available for licensing.
This is at present work in progress as I assemble my portfolio; but if there is anything which sparks your interest, I am very happy to discuss options.
Autumn winter hedgerow berries; is detail of a maximalist hero print which was originally done in Dip pen, Ink and Watercolour. It portrays the phenomenal array of diverse vegetation within a small area of hedgerow.
Joys of Spring is an eclectic mix of countryside young life, part of the theme of celebrating the old and the new. This design maybe particularly suitable for fabrics and stationery items.
Abundance of Autumn; which is the theme within this collection, also available with a dark background. I find it amazing the quantity of berries and fruit within the hedgerows, particularly these last couple of years.
Strawberry bank memory is inspired by walking along country lanes of my youth, picking the tiny taste bombs of the wild strawberries, amongst the bursts of pretty white flowers.
Beady Hip Twines, is a linear design with Rose hips and the twinkling beads of Bryony. These drape and dangle attractively in the hedgerows and are a perfect design for decorating indoors, on wallpapers or fabrics.
Beeing Nostalgic combines the delicate lacework of old handmade doilies with the familiar spring bumble bee and the fresh yellow primroses. Perfect for quilting and patchwork.
